How we research and rank mowers

Gardobot exists to be the lawn-mower resource that's free, current, sourced and tool-backed — the things the paywalled test bodies and the data-thin affiliate blogs each only half-deliver. This page is the contract behind that claim.

Our prime rule: we never fabricate

Every specification, price and claim on this site is either taken from a cited source or left blank. A blank shows as "Not specified" — it never means we estimated, rounded or guessed. If we can't source it, we don't print it.

Where data comes from

What "verified" means

A mower is marked verified only when its key specs come from an authoritative source — the manufacturer or a named test body. Records still being corroborated are shown unverified, with that status stated plainly. Each page also shows a data-completeness figure and a last-updated date.

Scores: why you won't see fake ones

We do not publish star ratings or out-of-ten scores until we can defend each one from sourced measurement and cited owner/test sentiment. Until then, the field is simply empty. We would rather show you the underlying numbers than a number we invented.

How our "best" lists are ranked

Because we don't fabricate scores, our "best for X" pages are transparent sorts on a single objective, sourced spec — best for large gardens ranks by rated working area, best for slopes by maximum gradient, and so on. The criterion is stated on every page, and a model only appears on a list if it actually has the spec that list ranks by.

Our tools

The calculators run on your inputs and clearly-labelled, editable default assumptions — they're estimates built from your numbers, not hidden product claims. The matcher, navigation chooser and coverage estimator filter the same sourced catalogue, and flag missing specs rather than guessing around them.

Units and prices

All measurements are metric. Prices are shown in each market's local currency, and only where we've sourced them.

Corrections

Specs change and mistakes happen. If something looks wrong, tell us via the contact page and we'll check the source and fix it. See also our editorial policy and how we're funded.
