Petrol vs cordless vs electric — running cost

How much does it actually cost to run each kind of mower for a year? Enter your lawn and your tariffs; the maths is transparent and the defaults are editable.

Compare the yearly energy/fuel cost of petrol, cordless and corded-electric mowers. Everything is editable — defaults are typical GBP figures, not fixed claims.

Advanced assumptions

Energy/fuel only. Excludes purchase price, batteries, blades, oil and servicing — petrol also needs oil changes and tune-ups, which cordless and corded largely avoid. Figures are an estimate from your inputs.

What this does and doesn't include

This compares energy and fuel only — the recurring cost of actually cutting the grass. It deliberately excludes purchase price, replacement batteries, blades and servicing, because those vary hugely by model. Petrol's running cost also understates its true cost of ownership: it needs oil, filters and periodic servicing that battery and corded mowers largely avoid. Treat the result as a like-for-like energy estimate, not a full total-cost-of-ownership figure.
